Previous discussions around topics for BarCamp

With a little less than two weeks to go, we have more than 50 people who have volunteered in registration to lead sessions and about 1/5 of that number who have placed proposals here. After reviewing all of the topics mentioned in registration and looking here, I am putting up this straw horse model of how to organize content. This approach would offer six breakouts, which would help keep our ~150 participants in manageable groups. Four would be structured ahead of time and two would be free form at the event. We would engage presenter(s)/facilitator(s) for each session ahead of time and encourage other knowledgeable people to contribute during the sessions. I hope this helps our planning efforts for 7 am, Tuesday, 9/7.

Call for Presenters for:

Let's use this page to brainstorm the actual sessions.  I made this separate so we could focus all attention of presenters and organizers here.  We will have 12 slots for sessions.  Ideally, we should have many more than that to choose from.  Perhaps 20 or 30?  So please use this space to propose ideas and topics.  We will come up with an equitable way to let the crowd decide on the final topics during the first 1/2 hour of the BarCamp on 9/20

If you have a topic you would like to lead, please copy this template and paste it below with your answers filled in.  If your topic is already listed, please improve the "strawman" entry which was created from meeting notes. - JW

Topic Number: 11

a. Leader Name (s):  Anne Pauker Kreitzberg

b. Topic:  New Roles, New Challenges: Re-defining what it means to be a leader (or a manager)  in the social media-friendly workplace

Management 101 defines the role of manager as "organizing, planning and control."  In the "social media-friendly" workplace these notions are completely redefined. Business leaders understand that they need to become more social media-savvy, but they struggle with how this will change not only their role but their ability to influence others. For social media strategies to take hold, we need to help redefine what it means to lead in a environment that is user-centric, empowered, transparent and agile.

c. Leader Qualifications:  I have been consulting, writing, and presenting on emerging workplace issues since 1995. In the past five years, we have presented to management and professional groups on the topic of a strategic approach to incorporating Web 2.0/social web from an internal and external point of view. We developed and teach courses on this topic (including a course for the American Management Association), and my article, Creating a Web 2.0-Friendly Culture was published last year in a special issue published by the HR Planning Society. We are currently providing thought leadership behind the design and creation of  an innovative social learning environment that will be published by Pearson in the fall. I also teach courses in  HR Management and Business Policy at Wharton.

d. Format: Slides plus facilitated discussion. Provocative, interactive discussion about the real-life challenges social media evangelists run up against inside their organization and how to overcome them.

c. Leader Qualifications: (Brief explanation of what makes you qualified to lead this topic): Previously responsibility for 2 years for customer facing/interacting social media strategy at Merck.  Led initiatives to detemine Merck's evaluation of and presence in the leading social platfroms, including creating and chairing a cross funtional teams to establish Merck strategy and guardrails.

d. Format: (What format would your presentation follow? slides, discussion, audio / video, etc.):  Discussion/panel oriented with up front question submission and live questions.
